Scott and Nikki Erwin
What brought you to Life Church? Another jiu-jitsu student invited me (Nikki) to an in-home Bible study with Professor Adam Miller, an awesome instructor at Gracie Jiu-Jitsu of Kentucky. I brought my pastor-husband (Scott) along and we fell in love with the group. Pastor-Professor Adam met with us and cast the vision of LifeChurch, invited us along on the journey; we prayed about it, and the Lord made it happen.
How do you serve Jesus at Life Church? My husband and I are serving on the Catalyst Team to begin this community of believers. I want to help it begin in a healthy, Godly way; Scott wants to help build it on a solid biblical foundation; we both want people find home and family together in Christ. We love the mission of reaching out to people who have “given up on church, but haven’t given up on God.”
Tell us about where you grew up, your family and where you work/what you do for a living. I was born and raised in Louisville; Scott is from New Mexico. When I felt a call to ministry, I was involved with choirs and church music; it turns out, that was just the first step on the road to becoming a Marriage and Family Therapist. I once told a friend, it was “the dream I never knew I had” when I studied music as a teenager and young adult.
I LOVE helping people through difficult life circumstances! I’m the MMFT Practicum Director and Lead Professor for the Marriage and Family Ministry major at Campbellsville University–Louisville. Scott has just joined the faculty and staff at CU– Louisville; after pastoring a church in Indiana for 18 years, he’s now teaching in the
School of Theology and working with International Students.
What do you love most about Louisville? Louisville is just the right size! It’s a vibrant urban and suburban metropolis with a thriving arts community, but also has lovely wooded areas in neighborhoods and parks — and it’s small enough to know the people in our neighborhoods. We love being able to get to whatever we need in minutes.
